You’ll love these simple cottage, or farmhouse, styling tips for your spring fireplace mantel that will carry you through the summer months.
Are you as big of fan of spring and summer as I am?
That’s Fantastic!
Around here winter likes to drag into April and sometimes May so while I get my spring mantel ready in March there’s a good chance that we will still experience winter weather for a few months.
Last night was a great example of that, after a week of high 50’s and even 60 degree weather we got the worst storm of the winter and I’m currently sitting in a coffee shop because we lost our power because of downed trees.
Beautiful but not spring right?
Decorating your spring mantel does not have to be complicated
Typically I decorate my mantel 3-4 times a year.
Spring, late summer, late fall, and first of the year.
Here is my Christmas 2022 Vintage Farmhouse Mantel
For my 2022 Christmas Mantel I used antique brass bells, brass candle holders, and beautiful cedar garland to stage my mantel for the season.
I purchased these from Neighbors Mercantile, in Nappanee, Indiana.
I started a job as the Merchandise stylist, with this beautiful small town, family owned business, in October 2022.
It is truly the best job! I Love every day I get to go to this beautiful store and work with amazing people!

Typically right after Christmas I will style my mantel in a basic, non themematic, style until March arrives.
Sometimes I do long for spring so I may add a green plant or something that helps to breathe life into our home.
When I style, I try to keep my elements basic while still adding interest to the space. Here I have the frames and I painted the flower pot to match. ( I used antique gold, rub and buff on the pot to match the frames)

Three Styling Tips|pieces I frequently Use on my Cottage Mantel
- The first thing I always have on hand are Candles and holders. This seems so basic but the soft glow and height variations is the perfect way to style spaces over and over again.
- Old books are the second most used items in my styling aresonal. They can be used backwards, forwards, as risers and give general interest.
- Florals, greens or seasonal stems. This gives a feel for the season without adding extra knick knacks and fluff. I mostly use faux plants because I tend to be a serial indoor plant killer. 🙁
You can see by the mantel in the background I like to use similar pieces and move them around in the same space to create different looks.
I’d encourage you to buy basic pieces and then play with the pieces you already have to create different looks without busting the budget.
Spring Mantel Stying
After a long winter I’m always ready for something fresh and simple.
Here I just used candles, glass and greens to bring spring to our mantel.
Use your creativity
Sometimes I think we stress too much about what is right and what isn’t. I heard someone recently say… “Don’t decorate for other people. Decorate for yourself”.
This makes so much sense to me!
After raising kids and always thinking about what everyone in the family likes to eat, I remember after they were gone, going to the Market and looking around lost wondering what it is that I like to eat. For decades I had only focused on what others want, I truly had forgotten what I would get for me.
The point is, take a beat, step back, and ask yourself, what do I like in my space?
What makes me feel most at home and what do I like to come home to?
Don’t listen to the voices that tell you it’s not acceptable.
You will feel most comfortable in an environment that tells your story and speaks your language.

I hope this was helpful for you.
Here’s my encouragement to continue to be creative and be you!
