August is flying past us at record speeds and this marks the month that I start to transition from summer to fall. I am not one who enjoys giving up on summer while it’s still so warm outside so I like to incorporate small changes by adding harvest fruits, like apples and pears.
If you’re visiting here today from my friend Regina at Saved from Salvage, welcome! I’m Rose and I’m so glad you’ve come to the Jenny Wren.
I bring in dried flowers, warm metals, and baskets of homey and comforting foods. Adding Jars of popcorn and nuts to my snack shelf makes my kitchen feel like there is a shift in the season.
Small changes say fall is coming
In my entryway, I keep my hooks pretty basic. It’s a fairly narrow space so I pretty much rely on my wall decor to give the nod to the season. Below is a simple way I did that with some dried flowers, a scarf, a hat, and a bag. Bringing in more color and texture for fall will be key. I may change this next month when the season actually turns but, for now, this is a nice transition for our home.
Transitioning my table from summer to fall
I love to do tablescapes. Fall and harvest themes are one of my favorite tablescapes to create. I’ll be showing you last year’s fall tablescapes in an upcoming blog post. But for this transition period, I like to use subtle changes. Again using the dried flowers and fruit for late summer, and early fall transition. Here I also used books, metal, and a cozy candle from my favorite candle maker, Hollow Hill Home.
Transitioning the Front Porch from Summer to Fall
Typically, I dress my porch up with lots of summer flowers and lanterns. I love to greet our guests with bursts of color. This year, I stayed pretty low-key and kept my flower pots to a minimum. So here at the end of the summer, I gathered my house plants, that have been thriving outdoors this summer, and brought them all to my porch for a final hurrah to summer. Very soon I will add pumpkins and gourds to this space. But I love the final month that I can bring these plants outside to live and breathe.
Until September, My front porch only got a few changes and one of them was my front door wreath. It’s crazy how that one thing makes the whole porch feel like fall is coming.
Transitioning my coffee bar from summer to fall
My coffee bar is one of the most favored features of our dining room. This big chalkboard wall and rustic shelves are fun to style and decorate for any season. I’ve brought in some apples, dried flowers, and yellow billy ball flowers which are so fun.
I hope these images have given you a few ideas on what to do in these in-between spaces as you transition slowly out of one season into the next.
Also today I have a special bonus for you because I’m joining up with some other bloggers who will be giving more inspiration for you to look at.
After you’ve pinned what you want to save, make sure to head over to see what my friend Tracy is sharing on her transition from summer to fall.
