Do you struggle with styling your mantel? You may be someone who wants a mantel styled the same year-round. Or one who likes to mix it up for every season. I find the mantel is a great place to display seasonal decor because it’s up out of the way and gives a new flavor to the room every season. Here are some mantel ideas I have used over the past few years.
The Most Wonderful Time of The Year
Christmas is always such a fun decorating season. It seems like I have 10 tubs of Christmas Decor for every 1 of any other season. So this is the perfect time to style up that mantel and bring some Christmas Cheer to the room.
Stockings are always a must if there is a mantel present. But… I struggle with knowing how to hang stockings full of Christmas goodies, so we typically hang them for aesthetics, and then on Christmas morning I fill them and lay them at each person’s spot at the table.
I love to decorate with natural-looking elements whenever I can. These candleholders were just cut from a tree that had fallen in our woods. We carved out the middle of the wood for the tapers to sit tightly in.
You will start to see a common theme in all of my mantel styling. I always start with a middle anchor and work from that point. This one above has the gather sign. The one above that has an old picture frame with dollar tree bells hanging from the frame and a wreath in the middle.
Fall Mantels Add So much Color
On both of these fall Mantels, I used a fall picture to start the style. Next, I began on the ends and moved toward the middle. The height and weight of the elements create interest and start to bring balance to the mantel.
Here I used Natural bittersweet that I gather every fall. It is one of my go-to’s for natural fall beauty. If you go to my Instagram page I have a video saved in my highlights on how to style a bittersweet wreath.
Styling the Mantel in Winter
Winter can be a hard season to know how to style a mantel. I typically let my mantel rest during these months with a simple statement mantel that stays neutral and easy.
The mantel below was also a winter mantel done with several layers of mirrors. If you love to layer picture frames or mirrors a mantel is the perfect place to do this. Because February is Valentine’s month the candles also give this mantel a romantic feel.
Spring and Summer Styles
Spring and Summer Mantels look pretty similar in my house. I usually start with an Easter theme Like above and then I move into a neutral zone again where I use less and keep it pretty simple for summer.
To make the Spring Mantel I started with an Old framed screen and added my Names of God Board that I made over a decade ago. I added books for height keeping the middle free so the whole picture could be seen. I flanked the outside of the frame with tall pieces to bring the angle down and then the middle olive tree and cross brings it down one more degree.
This Mantel was just redone for Summer. But honestly, It really could be considered a mantel for in-between seasons. It was a fun one to decorate and since I just got a whole bunch of old books it felt like a perfect way to use those.
You Can Do This
So there we have it. All 4 seasons on one mantel. Remember to have fun and don’t overthink it. If you look at it for a few days and hate it try something else! Sometimes you don’t have to change everything… maybe your eye is just catching one thing that seems off. Pull that off and try something else. I do that ALL the time. But most importantly Remember, You get to decide what you like in your own home. You know what makes your house feel like a home.
