What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Many people wouldn’t want to miss the dressing, turkey, sweet potatoes, or green bean casserole. But for me, I always save room for grandma’s pumpkin pie.
It’s the one time of year I know I will have to save room for dessert. This is a challenge because of all the other great food choices as well. But I’m not a quitter, so I make sure to get myself a slice.
This week over on Instagram I have been showing photos of Thanksgiving tables and sharing recipes from my past in my stories.
Today I’m featuring my GRANDMA’S PUMPKIN PIE. I live in a big Mennonite/Amish community and my grandma was a Fantastic Mennonite Cook. She was a widow as long as I knew her and she and all her friends were the ones who brought fantastic pies to the potlucks and holiday meals. I will forever cherish those beautiful days when life seemed simpler and slower-paced. Sometimes when I smell a smell or taste food from the past it transports me back to a time and place that makes me feel nostalgic. I feel like my adult life has been one of often trying to recreate those feelings for my family and others I love.
This Thanksgiving If you are looking for a pumpkin pie recipe you should taste my grandma’s. If she were still here she would giggle and shyly smile as I sang her praises. She was a loving woman and her pie is one of my favorite ways to remember her.
If you love pumpkin pie you should try this creamy, not too pumpkiny, pumpkin pie.
